Wedding Day

Saturdays are for weddings. I was hired to shoot the video for the wedding, however I ended up shooting a few photos while I was at it.

Big shout outs to Shelly King. She did the makeup for this wedding, and nocked it out of the part.

Poetry Jam (97.3)

Tonight was in one word, "Awesome". Some of my favorite poets from past shows were there, and a few new people brought the heat as well.

Big B and the Coast team hits another Home Run with this. Dj Mike Lang was making the drinks right, Sandra , heck just being Sandra, and Bigg B, that man is a fool. Yes, I did take video of some of the monologue but that is for the next big thing in my life. (All Angles Mag)

Sun, oh my god, she did her thing. She has a way of bringing you into her words, chocking your air supply, and when she is ready, letting you breath again.

One Tough Poet, My mama was your mama. Heart is heart, family is family, our stories are the same, I just lived the North Dakota version. LOL.

Eclectik Soulz had the house rocking. Heck they almost gave me some rhythm. LOL

So, thank you again for letting me come out yet to another great event. I am very blessed to be part of these night.

Jamie

P.S. Friday night come to the Brick House. Live Music I'll be in there in photographer mode, with my lights and printers, so come dressed right. You will have a chance to take photos with the artists. For more info hit up J Reese.

Photography Tips: (Sima SL-20LX)

The Sima Ultra Bright Video Light (model SL-20LX).

As a photographer I need gear that is light, battery powered and easy for me to rig where ever I may need light for my shot. These little babies do the trick perfectly.

I first ran across a video guy using one of these at a wedding I was shooting. The light was almost blinding the poor people he was interviewing. So, you know me, I had to buy one and see what I could do with it.

When I first got it, I used it only as a flashlight. When shooting in the dark your camera will have a hard time pulling focus, thus you will get blurry photos. And everyone knows I can't stand blur. Then one day, I had this crazy idea. Why not use this for a key light instead of one of my flashes.

See when most people use flash at night, they use to much of it. If your flash settings are too high, you will over power your background, thus making the background super dark, or black. This can be a cool look, but not one that you want to use all of the time. So, the easy way around this is to use continues light, just like the SL-20LX.

I put one of these on a light stand and moved the stand back and forth until I found the sweet spot. Some of the photos from yesterdays shoot were done using only 2 of these lights.

Panty Confessions 1.1 (End Zone, Wilmington, NC)

Tonight I was invited to come out and shoot the Panty Confessions Part 1.1 at the End Zone. The event was hosted by Wilmington's own Bigg B from 97.3. As always B did his thing.

Now for those of you have not been to an event like this, you need to step out of your box. This was a classy, and sexy event. Mike Waggs rocked the house with his smooth music, and the poets let you have it with their smooth words and delivery. As for comedian Earf, I had a hard time taking photos, I was laughing so hard.

Photography Tips: (Night Time Photography for less then $5)

So, why do more people do not do night time photography?

Simple it's harder, well not really, just harder in your head. When I first started I thought that I could only shoot in the magic hour of photography, Sunrise and Sunset. Boy, was I wrong.

These days I find myself using my flash only during the day, and maybe a led flash light at night. For this shoot we tried an idea I've been playing with. I only used a 50mm 1.8 lens, a $4 (75 lumens) flashlight, and a 30 cent piece of poster board. Yep, my lighting was for less then $5.

Here is the trick, you need light for your camera to focus, but if you shine a cheap light at a model your going to get different amounts of light in places, and it doesn't look good. Besides that, your going to blind the person. So, take a light stand and clamp your flashlight to it, then have someone, or in my case, tack the paper to a tree. Then shine the light onto the paper, and have the model stand close. Just that easy.

NY (Time Square / Fashion Street / Downtown)

Day 4, and it's time to hit the streets of NY. Addie and I went on a photography walkabout. (Anyone who has shot with me know how these go. We walk until we find something that catches one of our eyes, we stop, then shoot.)

So, this was my first taste of the NY Subway system. It's a little crazy at first, but once you miss a stop or 2 you get the hang of it. LOL

I will be back up here for sure. NY, I think I love you.

Now if your in NY, and you have your gear out, some people are going to stop you and ask you to take their pic. So you know me, I'm more then happy to do it. LOL.

Special thanks out to Addie, she was a great model, and great photographer. She took the photos of me on this walkabout.

So, this is day 3 of my trip to NY. Ms Addie was my model for this shoot, and let me tell you she is a pro. Look for her on Americas Next Top Model, I know she will make it.

If you ever get into NY, you have to go to this place. It was an amazing shooting experience.

Nikon D7000 Firmware Updates

For those lovers of the Nikon D7000 such as myself, I would like to let you know about another firmware upgrade. I installed it a few weeks back, and have not had a bit of problems.

Just like any other electronics is a good idea to make sure your gear is up to date and running at it's best. Twice a month I look for updates on all of my gear. When your shooting a wedding you only have one change to get it right, so you better have your gear at it's best.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Today was a great day with my son. We started off the day playing video games, then we took in the MLK Parade. Thank you everyone for coming out to show your support for the event.

So, today is day one on the new blog, the new website, and a new challenge to myself for 2012. I'm going to do my version of a year in photography. Each day I will post a random pic from one of my shoots from that day, or perhaps even one of the "How To" videos people have been asking me to make. 2012 is going to be a great year.
